Concept Explanation

Multiplying 2 Digit Number By 1 Digit Number By Regrouping

Multiplication of numbers can be done with the help of tables

For example let us multiply 34 X 9 = ?

The multiplication can be done as follows

Step 1:

Multiply the digit at ones place

4 ones X 9 = 36 ones

As 36 is greater than 9 or we can say that 36 is a two digit number

We will write 6 ones in the ones column and carry 3 tens to the tens column.

Step 2:

Multiply the digit at tens place

3 tens X 9 = 27 tens

Now we add the carried over tens from the step 1

27 tens + 3 tens (carried over) = 30 tens

Write 0 in the tens column and 3 in the hundreds column.

Answer = 306
